Crimes we commit, Lies we forget, Lovers we acquit
What things could you forgive of your lovers? Having seen Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind (GO SEE THIS MOVIE!), with it's premise that people are what they are, and perhaps we're better in a shitty relationship together than no relationship apart. Along the way, there were revelations about what they'd done that made them fall in love, as well as realizations of how shitty they were to one another. Which left me once again positive, that no matter how badly things turned out, I regret not a single relationship I've ever had. In fact, I look back fondly on the bad as well as the good, simply because they are what make a relationship real.
So I ask: What could you forgive of your lovers? Cheating? Beating? Eating (too much)? Fete-ing (too much)? err.. I can't think of another rhyme. I've divorced lovers because they gained weight, lost sex drives, didn't swallow, didn't fit in my carefully constructed dream world in which I am the king of all I survey and they are a loyal slave and subject, and for being too stupid. Yes. too stupid. I can handle a bit of stupidity, but you'd better be good looking, charming, healthy and for god's sake, devoted to me. Otherwise, out the door with you.
No, I'm lying. I couldn't even handle a bit of stupidity. I tried, ignoring that the girl in question couldn't have even a conversation about cartoons. They were too intellectual. Brr.
So what's the biggest thing you've ever forgiven of a lover? For me, stupidity. Hands down. Something you dealt with and then either ignored or continued to deal with out of sheer, mind-numbing love?
And for me, the biggest thing I've ever asked girlfriends to forgive of me is my incredible arrogance and conceit. Sometimes, I stun myself with the self-important shit that spills out of my mouth.
